Troubleshooting for JWLABS Model A3

Trouble with your Model A? It’s rare, and it’s likely due to user error which we can easily remedy through coaching. On occasion, however, people grapple with it themselves rather than calling us and sometimes resort to sending their machine in to JWLABS for testing.

Of the few machines which are sent back for our review, 99% of them are due to user error which could have been resolved over the phone. For this reason, we are reviewing our brief troubleshooting tips.

Problem: Burning or irritation of skin at site of electrode patch placement.

Solutions –
If using self adhesive patches, replace with new ones. With continued use, the adhesive on the patches degrades and interferes with the quality of your contact.

Corroded electrodes

Clean the electrodes for optimal current flow on your Model A.

Check the pins on ends of electrode wires. If they have become blackened from carbon build-up, use a fine emery board or sand paper to clean.

Note –
Some people are more sensitive to this burning than others. For this reason, we advise that you not place the patches on sensitive areas without JWLABS coaching.

We train our Model A users to place electrode patches on the palms and/or the soles of the feet. This is because in these areas the skin is more robust than more sensitive areas. Patches may be used in the more delicate areas, but we advise that customers be personally coached for these special applications.

For those who are particularly inclined to have skin irritation, we provide coaching for special techniques with the carbon patches which are included in the start-up kit.

In general, it is advisable to re-position the patches every ten minutes or so, especially if placement is other than on hands and/or feet.

Problem: No green activity light.

Solutions –
Make sure the input cable is securely connected to the headphone jack of your media player. Occasionally, the fit of the plug into the jack requires some adjustment. This is due to very slight variations of the measurements of the components.

Adjust the volume of the media player to maximum. When using a computer, this requires that you check settings in several places: keyboard, sound system adjustment in control panel, etc.

Note that if using a cd player, the volume setting will often default to zero when you change the batteries. Do not assume that you are at maximum volume.

Problem: No output.

Solution –
First, make sure your activity light is illuminated to bright green. If this is in place, check your connection at the electrode jack. Your electrode wires must be firmly in place.

Another possibility is that there is a break in one or more of the very fine wires that compose the electrode wires. In this case, they will need to be replaced.

    Re: Sensitive skin.
    I don’t use adhesive electrodes. I’ve found that Calendula gel is very effective as an electrode coating. Most drug stores and health food stores carry it. It eliminates hot spots, and adds a degree of conformity of the electrode to the skin. Calendula is the very best healing agent for burns, cuts, abrasions, etc.
    I tape the electrodes on, and advise users to apply a slight pressure to the electrodes during treatment. For hand placement, place the palms on the tops of the thighs. For other areas, use your hands (with paper towels to insulate them). A paper towel folded twice keeps the gel off of your clothes. I’m sensitive to the adhesive used in bandages and surgical tape. Masking tape works, but good quality (not super thin) packing tape works the best. The 2 inch width is perfect for 2 inch electrodes. Put the tape on the electrode first, while pressing the electrode in place, press the ends of the tape to the skin.

      Yes, aloe vera gel also works well. We provide carbon electrode patches with our machines. They are used with the gel, or wrapped in a damp cloth to assist in conductivity.
      Using these patches, either with the gel or wrapped in damp cloth, provides an excellent way to deliver current to sensitive areas. Also very helpful when you desire to move patches over an area of concern.
